I moved back to Kansas in October 2008. I had been diagnosed with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis in September 07 while living in Ohio. When I arrived here, I was referred to Dr. Vernon Rowe by a co-worker of my husbands’. Once I was evaluated, I was referred to Dr. Jackson, (Shane Jackson, DPT).
I
remember telling him, I needed a leg brace and cane per my previous Physical Therapist in Ohio. Dr. Jackson assessed my condition and discussed his treatment plan. I remember asking him, “when will I be fitted for a brace and cane?” His response was “not on my time.” After Shane worked with me for 3 or 4 months, I was able to do the treadmill for 30 minutes; something I hadn’t done in 3 years.
He had me working on arm strength, balance… then I graduated to the Exercise Group!
I was blessed with another great group – Charidy and Leigh. I became friends with all the other MS patients who participated in this group. We have so much fun together – we laugh, share the good and the bad times. Our group decided to get together every 6-8 weeks for lunch and laughter. The people that I have met here have become my family! Whenever I feel overwhelmed with the MS I remember, “not on my time”. This has become my “push” in all I do!
