Usually, migraine, one of the most common disorders of adults, involves headache. But sometimes it involves a person’s ability to talk and causes numbness of the face and arm, as seen in the video below in this dramatic example of aphasia - probably caused by migraine, in a reporter describing the Emmy awards on Valentine’s Day 2011.
Migraine can mimic the warning signs of stroke, and act like a TIA (transient ischemic attack.) Only after other causes of stroke are ruled out by neurologists can the diagnosis of complex migraine be made. If a symptom like this happens, a person should go to the nearest emergency room where the causes of the symptom can be sorted out.
Migraine is treatable. Researchers at MidAmerican Neuroscience Institute are studying the link between sleep and migraine. Sometimes, treatment of common sleep disorders leads to marked improvement of migraine symptoms.
