Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis Research Opportunity
Posted on Fri, Sep 02, 2011 @ 11:37 AM
MidAmerica Neuroscience Institute is pleased to announce a new clinical research opportunity for people with primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS). As you may know, available treatment options for PPMS are limited – which means it may be important for you to consider clinical research studies like this one. It is called the Oratorio Study and it is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational drug in slowing the progression of PPMS.
Targeting PPMS
The Oratorio Study is evaluating an investigational humanized monoclonal antibody to determine whether it may slow the progression of PPMS. The investigational drug is designed to target a type of white blood cell, called B-cells, that is believed to pay a role in the progression of this disease. Researchers are increasingly studying the role B-cells may play in the nervous system damage that occurs in people with PPMS.
- Study participation will last between three and five-and-a-half years. If you are eligible and enroll, you will receive the following:
Access to the investigational drug or placebo (an inactive substance)
- Potential long-term access to the investigational drug during an extended treatment period (not all study participants will be eligible for this study extension)
- Study-related care and monitoring (including physical examinations, neurological examinations and MRI scans)
